A fanta’stick’ afternoon for Paddington class.

This afternoon at Forest School Paddington class listened to the story ‘Stanley’s Stick’. Stanley gave them some ideas about finding their very own special stick in the woods and about how they could use their imagination to make it whatever they wanted it to be.

All of the children were excited to go and find their own stick and had some brilliant imaginative ideas about what their stick was. They used a variety of materials like string, ribbon and wool to decorate and enhance their sticks, and then used them whilst exploring and playing in the woods.

Some of the ideas the children thought of included fishing rods, wands, bow and arrow sets, magic keys, skipping ropes, walking sticks and flags.

Well done Paddington class. I thought your ideas were fanta’stick’!

Simba class go to the BIG woods!

Today Simba class walked over to the BIG woods for the first time. We were all very excited.

We all walked sensibly in pairs across the road using the zebra crossing and then followed the path to the woods. When we got to the woods we found a spot to set up camp and we all sang the Forest School song. We talked about our new rules when exploring the bigger woods, like where our boundaries are, and what we should do if a dog comes into Forest School.

We then learnt a new game called ‘1,2,3….where are you?’ Some of us had to close our eyes and count to 20, whilst the others went to hide in the woods. We then shouted out “1,2,3…where are you?” as loud as we could, and had to listen carefully for the children hiding who responded “1,2,3…we’re here!” which helped us to find them.

Next we listened to a story called ‘Stanley’s Stick’, which gave us lots of ideas about what we could do if we found our very own special stick in the woods. The children all then had time to explore the woods and found some brilliant sticks which they made their own.

At the end of the morning we all walked safely back to school, we were all ready for lunch by the time we got back!!

Well done Simba Class, I was very proud of you today!

Gruffalo class adventure to the BIG woods!

Today Gruffalo class walked over to the BIG woods for the first time. It was a very rainy day, but that didn’t stop us! 🙂

We all walked sensibly in pairs across the road using the zebra crossing and then followed the path to the woods. On the way we spotted that lots of trees had lost their leaves and the children could tell me that this was because it is Autumn.
When we got to the woods we found a spot to set up camp and the adults made a shelter to protect us from the rain. We all sang the Forest School song.
We talked about our new rules when exploring the bigger woods, like where our boundaries are, and what we should do if a dog comes into Forest School. Then the children all had time to explore and found lots of interesting things to look at, like mushrooms and fungi growing, and rabbit holes.

Towards the end of the morning the rain got heavier, so we went inside a very large bush, with a huge log inside to sit on. Here we listened to Mrs Read read us a story called ‘Stanleys Stick’.
At the end of the morning we all walked safely back to school, and were all ready for lunch by the time we got back!!

Well done Gruffalo Class, I was very proud of you today!
